1st Fundraiser Great Success

Even with competing with the first day of warm weather, and the Badger Basketball team arriving home from California, we had a great event and turn-out at Mason's on Main.  We raised a total of $1,350 in new donations.  Everyone enjoyed touring the Pump House, for many, this was their first time inside the building.  We asked guests if they could see the restored Pump House as a new Village Visitor Center, 100% said yes.  Thank you to Bonnie and Jerry Thiel for hosting this great event.  The food was exceptional.  Thanks to Michael Mood for entertaining us with his piano talent.  We appreciate all the donated items from area businesses for the silent auction.  A special thanks to Dilame Lindmeier, who was dressed in period clothing, and escorted groups of people to the Pump House for a tour.

If you could not make it to the fundraiser, but would still like to make a donation, make checks payable to:  Village of Oregon/Preserve the Water Tower Fund.  Send to the Village Hall at 117 Spring Street, Oregon, WI  53575

The Friends of the Historic Oregon Water Tower Group Formed

A new group has just been formed, The Friends of the Historic Oregon Water Tower, and we need your help to restore and keep this valuable piece of village history in good condition. Built in 1899, the Pump House and Water Tower are on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places. In October 2013, the Oregon Historic Preservation Commission and Village Board gave the Friends permission to move forward with a landscaping project in spring of 2014.

Here is the tentative plan for the restoration of the Pump House and Water Tower:

Phase 1 - Spring of 2014, plant new landscaping around the building and water tower
Cost: $2,500

Phase 2 - 2014, conduct tuck-pointing on outside of building, replace windows, front door, paint outside of building, restore inside of Pump House
Cost: Approximately $40,000

Phase 3 - 2015-2016: Restore theWater Tower (repaint)

There have been ideas suggested for possible usage of the Pump House. A Visitor Center that would be used to promote village activities and businesses within the village has been the most widely suggested use for the space.

In order to restore the Pump House and Water Tower, we need your help through volunteering and most of all, donations. Please print the Friends of the Historic Oregon Water Tower membership form, indicate how you are willing to help, and mail it to the address provided on the form to become a member of the Friends of the Historic Oregon Water Tower.
